1973 Sony Pillow Speaker

**Before there were AirPods, there was Sony’s Pillow Speaker**

In 1973, Sony decided that bedtime deserved a soundtrack, and thus the Pillow Speaker was born. This pioneer in personal audio allowed night owls to have their own private concerts right from the comfort of their beds (or a serenade to help them drift off to sleep), laying the groundwork for the whisper-quiet tech we see in modern gadgets. Today, it’s still setting the bar for bedtime tunes, proving that good ideas never go out of style.
