William Bell - Soul of a Bell

$8.70 $29.00

**“Somebody was trying to tell me that CDs are better than vinyl because they don’t have any surface noise. I said, “Listen, mate, life has surface noise.” - John Peel**

That surface noise is one of the warm, fuzzy charms of analog recordings that aficionados, recording artists, and turntable enthusiasts alike treasure about vinyl — Tom Waits even went so far as to record sizzling bacon and add it to digital tracks to capture a semblance of the often-imitated-never-duplicated feel of vinyl. Whether it’s a warm summer night with the windows wide open or a chilly winter evening with the fire going, we love having a few friends over, serving up some drinks, and starting up the turntable with the sounds of our favorite records.

about
The debut LP from William Bell--the guy who wrote legendary songs like “Born Under A Bad Sign” and “I Forgot To Be Your Lover”--The Soul Of A Bell is something of an early career compendium, as Bell was one of the first solo males not named Rufus Thomas to put out a single on Stax, and was poised to hit the big time before he got drafted and had to put his career on ice for a few years in the mid-’60s. He got back from serving, and Otis Redding and Sam & Dave had passed him by, so he hunkered down and wrote most of his own debut LP (a rarity for Stax), delivering, six years later, on all the promise of his debut single. - VMP This special edition was pressed exclusively for VMP and includes: - Listening notes booklet - Foil stamp - 180 gram vinyl
